Dr. Shelby Garza joined the Department of Forensic Science as an Assistant Professor in 2025. She has a PhD in Applied Anthropology from Texas State University with 10 years of forensic anthropological training and experience as well as teaching courses and workshops with topics in forensic anthropology, human osteology, skeletal methods, and methods in human remains recovery. Experience working with humanitarian organizations and excavation of human remains for the purpose of identification and repatriation. Research interests broadly focus on human variation and adaptation, more specifically how these differences can be used to help identify unknown decedents.
