Magdalena Denham

Biography:

Dr. Magdalena Denham is an Associate Professor of Practice at the Department of Security Studies, College of Criminal Justice, Sam Houston State University and teaches graduate and undergraduate courses across topics in emergency management, disaster risk reduction, homeland and comparative homeland security, leadership and management, policing, and intelligence. Her research has been published in the International Journal of Emergency Services, Journal of School Violence, International Journal of Disaster Response and Emergency Management, International Journal of Mass Emergencies and Disasters, International Journal of Safety and Security Engineering, and Journal of Emergency Management among others. Magdalena has previous experience in federal law enforcement as well as homeland security and emergency management educational programs’ design both through the Incident Command Simulation and Training (InCoSIT) at the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT) which she co-created and through academic curriculum development at the College. Magdalena’s teaching philosophy is grounded in experiential learning and education through community engagement; she is a recipient of the Service Award and the Academic Community Engagement (ACE) Award at the College of Criminal Justice.
